Alison Hunt has 19 years post-qualification organisational and private practice experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor, clinical manager and clinical director. She has trained and worked in New York City and London. Her practice encompasses individual psychotherapy, family and couple counselling, and clinical supervision of other counsellors and psychotherapists.
Alison's approach as a psychotherapist has evolved over time and with experience, being broadly psychodynamic, but incorporating elements of cognitive and dialectical behavioural therapies. Alison has an extensive knowledge of the treatment of substance and process addictions, and works from an abstinence-based / 12 Step model in dealing with these issues. She also incorporates the use of buddhist concepts, such as mindfullness, into her practice. In working with families, Alison uses a family systems approach.
Alison trained at New York University, and holds a Master’s degree in clinical social work (MSW), which is a core mental health and psychotherapeutic training in the USA. Alison has completed further training in clinical supervision and consultancy at The Tavistock Centre and the Maudsley Hospital, and in Group Analysis at the IGA.
In addition to her private psychotherapy practice, Alison currently provides clinical supervision for the counselling and support teams at Lifeworks Community Ltd., organises and facilitates addictions groups at Terrence Higgins Trust, and works on a sessional basis at The Recovery Centre.
