Details of Practice

Titta M. Laattala (Lic. TCM, Cert. PCHM, Cert. MQG) is a qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese medicine and has a certificate in Prepared Chinese herbal medicine and in Medical Qigong. She is a fully insured member of the Professional Register of Traditional Chinese Medicine (PRTCM).

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

TCM is an ancient and sophisticated form of medical treatment which originated in China but has increasingly spread throughout the world. TCM has a wide range of treatment methods, including acupuncture, moxibustion (a form of heat treatment), dietary therapy, medical Qigong, herbal medicine, and medical advice concerning the patient’s life style or daily living activities that contribute to the cause or prolongation of the health complaint.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture treats people who complain of a deficiency or break down in their health. It can focus on physical, psychological, emotional or even spiritual disorders with equal effect. The extent and speed of recovery will depend on a number of considerations, such as the nature or severity of the complaint and the length of time the complaint has been there. There is no limitation in terms of age, sex or condition regarding acupuncture treatment. The very young or extremely old can be treated. Pregnant women can be greatly assisted by acupuncture treatment. In the hands of a fully qualified professional practitioner acupuncture is entirely safe and without harmful side-effects.

Detailed Medical Case History

The initial consultation can last anything between thirty and sixty minutes or even more. A very detailed medical case history is taken and all patients currently on a course of drugs should bring them along at the first consultation. A thorough examination of both tongue and pulse will be carried out and a brief physical examination will be conducted where appropriate. The entire proceedings are safeguarded by total confidentiality. Subsequent treatment sessions will last from anything between twenty minutes (the typical length in China) up to an hour. Practitioner usually sees the patient once a week or once a fortnight.
